Summary
DescriptionCoil–beam spaceship.webp
English: This artwork depicts a conceptual coil-beam spaceship, a type of spacecraft that uses electromagnetic propulsion. The vehicle can store compressed Xenon, Krypton, or Argon propellant, which is released and energized using radio-frequency (RF) power. The RF energy ionizes one of the noble gases into a glowing plasma, which is then accelerated through a series of electromagnetic coils. It can store different gases in the many tanks it has, to use the proper propellent base on how aggressive of an orbital maneuver it needs to make.
Large solar panel arrays and solar panels on the shaft provide electrical power for the propulsion system. The propulsion system does not require an oxidizer because thrust is produced electrically.
The hexagon storage modules can scale up in a wider honeycomb or stacked longer out in front as well. This spacecraft would be assebled in space and stay in space and be like a barge for interplanitary/moon orbits. Honeycombs of hexagon modules would be staged in orbit and the coil-beam ship would come dock with it and take it to a different planetary orbit. Liquid propellent rockets would need to do the lifting and deorbiting of the containers to and from the surface.
