Software:CallRail

From HandWiki

CallRail is an Atlanta-based developer of call tracking software and analytics for inbound and outbound calls. Its products aim to provide tools for companies and marketing agencies such as phone call tracking, call recording, and analytics.[1] It was founded by Georgia Tech alumni Andy Powell and Kevin Mann in 2011. [2]

History

CallRail was founded by Andy Powell and Kevin Mann in 2011.[3] In an interview with Atlanta Business Chronicle, Powell explained that he developed the concept of CallRail after his own experience. Prior to CallRail, Powell had his own small business: Bimmer Shops. It was an online directory that sold digital ads to BMW repair shops. Over time, companies that were spending money on his digital ads started asking him to prove that his digital ads were driving calls.

It was this experience that led him to realize that he may have a market to provide other small businesses like him with call tracking and analytics.[4] In doing so, small businesses would have the visibility they need to know what marketing tactics are generating the most calls. Now, CallRail services more than 150,000 businesses has grown quickly over the years.[5]

In 2017, CallRail raised $75 million in growth capital from Sageview Capital and Leaders Fund.[6] The following year, the company expanded and moved into “The Equitable Building,” becoming one of the companies that helped spurred the economic and job growth of metro Atlanta along with others such as Zeller Realty and Georgia’s Own.[7] Sageview Capital and Leaders Fund invested an additional $56 million into the company, rounding total capital raised to $132 million in 2020.[8]

Software

CallRail is a platform that provides call tracking software to small-to-medium-sized businesses.[9] It helps marketers develop marketing strategies with data from web analytics, online advertising, digital marketing, and interruption marketing efforts using the insights from phone calls. It also features integrations to commonly used marketing automation platforms like HubSpot[10], content management, landing pages, and search engine platforms such as Google My Business.[11]

Call Tracking

Call Tracking allows businesses to track phone calls based on advertising campaigns, traffic sources, and search keywords.[12][13] This functionality provides businesses with information that allows them to understand their target audience better. By seeing what campaigns, ad groups, and keywords promoted a call, businesses can become more effective with their marketing strategy — improving SEO, PPC, and other inbound and outbound marketing efforts.

Form Tracking

Driven by the need to attribute marketing's impact across the customer's journey, CallRail later released Form Tracking.[14][15] This feature allows businesses to track consumer online form submission activity. While CallRail does have a custom form builder within its platform, users can also integrate with landing page builders like Unbounce. According to Kevin Mann, as cited in Digital Journal, a tool like Form Tracking allows businesses to get more visibility into all the interactions a consumer has with their brand — giving them more insights into how different channels impact different stages of the sales funnel.[16]

Conversation Intelligence

Conversation Intelligence was launched around the same time as Form Tracking .According to an interview with Martech Cube, CallRail mentioned that Conversation Intelligence was created “ to help businesses gain key insights into the critical conversations happening with customers every day, and to save businesses resources and hours of manual work every week so they can be more efficient and productive.”

It works by automatically recording calls and using artificial intelligence (AI) to transcribe and analyze phone calls.[17] Conversation Intelligence can surface commonly used keywords and topics identified in the transcripts. Businesses can use the data from call recordings generated by Conversation Intelligence to inform their SEO and pay-per-click (PPC) strategies, optimize their digital ad spend, generate targeted content that speaks to their audience, and understand their customers throughout the customer journey better.[18]

Lead Center

Lead Center is the latest addition to the CallRail Platform. It’s a virtual phone system and communications hub that consolidates multiple channels of communication — calls, text, online forms, etc. — into a single inbox.[19] Kevin Mann explains in an interview with Forbes that because all customer interactions are housed in one place, businesses can save on costs by decreasing response time because they no longer have to “toggle between multiple platforms.”[20]

Reception

CallRail ranked 370th out of 500 at Deloitte's Tech Fast 500 in 2020.[21] The company has also received rewards for its work culture, such as the Atlanta Journal Constitution Top Workplaces in 2019[22] and 2020.[23] Likewise, CallRail has received similar accolades from Inc. — attaining the designation as one of Inc.'s Best Workplaces (2018 and 2019) and joining the Inc. 5000 fastest-growing-privately-held companies in the U.S., ranking number 107 in 2016, number 492 in 2017, number 931 in 2018, number 1079 in 2018, and 1629 in 2020.[24]
