Sergey Ivanov is professor at the Higher School of Economics. Sergey Ivanov was trained as classicist in Moscow State University.

Ivanov  teaches at the Higher School of Economics since 2013; since 2020 he is the chair of the department of ancient history and Byzantium at the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies<ref>{{cite web |title=Department of Ancient History and Byzantium |url=https://iocs.hse.ru/en/ah |website= Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies}}</ref> of this university.
