Description
English: 640x480 Ogg/Theora video, video quality 2 (medium)

Farm tower silo filling process, with English comments and faded clip transitions included in the video. Further notes are shown here:

  1. Preparing to unload - attaching forage wagon PTO to tractor and setting forage wagon conveyor bed control lever in neutral position.
  2. Starting the tractor driving the blower, engaging the blower PTO, and bringing the PTO shaft speed up to 540 RPM.
  3. Initial unloading of forage wagon, emptying the transverse conveyor of large piles of silage that collected during wagon filling. The conveyor is paused to allow time for the blower to consume the large mounds of plant matter.
  4. Adjusting water intake to blower. Water cools the blower housing, which gets hot due to friction of the planet material rubbing the interior walls. Also the blower blades appear to rub against the inside of the housing when heavily loaded. The water also increases the moisture content of the silage to help achieve the proper rate of fermentation.
  5. View of the forage wagon from the front and off to the side showing the silage stirrer tines and falling forage.
  6. Interior view of front of forage wagon showing forage moving transversely on conveyor towards blower (high risk of camera damage due to flying dust).
  7. Front view of both tractors, and pausing of the forage wagon near the end of the unloading, as large clumps at the top are sent into the blower.
  8. Credits and attribution. Recorded on the dairy farm of Kenneth Mahalko, within the geographical borders of Gilman, WI, but located nearer to Ruby, WI. Ken is shown operating the equipment. This video was recorded by Dale Mahalko to help improve the agriculture articles on Wikipedia.
