ClimateAi

From HandWiki

ClimateAi is an American artificial intelligence company known for developing analytics and forecasting tools tracking short-term and long-term weather and climate impact.[1][2][3][4] It was founded by Himanshu Gupta and Max Evans in San Francisco, California in 2017.[5]

History

Gupta and Evans met as postgraduate students at Stanford University before deciding to found ClimateAi and run the company out of their dorms.[6][7] Robert Downey Jr. and Jerry Yang were some of the company’s first backers.[5][7]

In 2020, ClimateAi was granted its first patent for its methods that use artificial neural networks for climate forecasting.[8] In the same year, ClimateAi was also awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant by the National Science Foundation.[9]

At the initiative’s launch in 2021, ClimateAi joined AIM for Climate, a joint initiative organized by the United States and the United Arab Emirates for the purposes of innovation in food security, agriculture, and climate change solutions.[10] ClimateAi was also one of the companies chosen to participate in the first trials for the Farm 2050 Nutrient Trialing Platform, an agritech testing and validation platform.[11]

ClimateAi was featured in the news program CBS News Sunday Morning in 2022.[12]

ClimateAi has been named Agri-Investor’s Global Innovation of the Year[13][14] and was part of Time (magazine) ’s 2022 Best Inventions of the Year list.[2]

ClimateAi’s ClimateLens platform identifies climate risks for companies across agriculture, food & beverage, manufacturing, retail, and energy.[12] It uses neural networks trained using both forward- and backward-looking data sets.[2] Its climate intelligence technology analyzes temperatures and weather patterns to forecast  weather and climate risks in companies’ operating sites, sourcing regions, and end markets.  It also uses publicly available weather data, IPCC climate models, and companies' proprietary operating data. For example, agribusinesses can use the platform to determine optimal times for crop planting, growing, and harvesting.[15][16] The platform can generate both short-term and long-term forecasts.[17]

ClimateAi frequently works with suppliers and food companies in the agricultural industry, as well as companies in the building materials/manufacturing, energy, and retail sectors.[18][19] ClimateAi has also collaborated with researchers from the University of Oxford to apply generative adversarial networks to fix biases in current weather models.[3][20]
