Introduction to the video "Science and Belief".
Maybe you've encountered a question like this: How can scientists believe in God, spirituality, or anything that doesn't seem scientific?
The answer is simple: we all believe in something. Scientists are no exception. While they trust scientific results, they also recognize that truth is not revealed by science alone. Many aspects of human experience lie outside the scope of science, yet they may still be real and shown to be true.
The fact that grandmother loved you can be an unconditional truth for you. It requires no experimentation nor proof. No scientific method can be applied. But this truth was shaped by many small factors and situations that were dear to you, which you can recall from your youth.
In a way, scientists are like archaeologists. They do not invent the mathematical principles of nature; they discover natural laws that existed long before humans arrived.
Imagine walking through a desert and discovering part of a metal chain. One end disappears deep beneath the sand, and no matter how hard you pull, you cannot lift it out. You begin studying the visible links-testing, observing, experimenting-and your only conclusion is that these links were made. Each link is firmly welded to another, hidden beneath the sand. You pull again, and another link appears. You study it, and once more conclude that it is connected to something deeper.
This is what scientists do: they uncover the laws of the universe, one by one, and explore how they are connected. These laws are beautifully and precisely expressed in mathematics. Each observable phenomenon leads to another, revealing its cause, yet always pointing further beneath the surface. It is a chain of cause and effect.
Naturally, the question arises: What holds the end of this chain under the surface?
One possible answer is that the chain is purely natural. Perhaps it is fixed to a rock, and each link is a product of natural processes. But that, too, is a belief-for science cannot prove what ultimately holds the chain.
When science reaches its limits, we turn to logic, philosophy, and the ancient wisdom of religion, rooted in humanity's spirituality. Maybe one day science will reveal the origin of this chain, and how it is anchored beneath the sand. Maybe the chain is finite. Or maybe the ultimate reason does not exist at all, and the chain stretches into eternity. Each of these views is, in its own way, a belief.
What matters is to recognize your beliefs. Refusing to ask such questions strips us of what makes us human-our curiosity.
And so, some believe that the chain is held by something beyond any rock, beyond any natural explanation. Something so profound and spectacular that it surpasses imagination and escapes every concept we form while unco
