Dr. Gordon joined NIH in 1951 serving first with the National Heart and Lung Institute, then in 1964 as clinical director of the National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolism, and Digestive Diseases. In 1974 he advised the NIH Director on policies pertaining to clinical research conducted or supported

by NIH as well as direct the ClinicalCenter.
