English: renyu 人魚 or human-fish from Sancai Tuhui 三才圖會. Birds & Beasts Book 6. Fish & shellfish. Text says that in "Dragon-Marquis Mountain 龍侯山" these are numerously found in "Wangjue 王決之水 ('King Bursting River)", and resemble the fish called fei 𩵥, but has four feet, and cries like a human child, and eating it cures epidemical sickness.
The entry in Strassberg tr, Shan hai jing gives Bursting River (Juejue 決決之水) and states it resembles the catfish 鮎 and eating it cures idiocy [1] |
