Summary

Description
English: Wabanaki Confederacy at its maximum extent, not one specific year. Much of the land along the Saint Lawrence River was previously inhabited by Iroquoian peoples, and they were mainly replaced by the Maliseet and later Western Abenaki peoples, fleeing disruption in the southern reaches of their territory, living in mission towns established by the French. The Micmacs also would also expand into New Foundland, for actual settlement, beginning in the 15/1600s and gradually continuing through the colonial era.
