'''PSO J318.5-22''' is a [[Astronomy:Rogue planet|rogue planet]], an [[Astronomy:Extrasolar object|extrasolar object]] of planetary mass that does not appear to have a host star.<ref name='gemini_confirm'/><ref name='staradvertiser'/> It is approximately 80 light-years away, and belongs to the [[Astronomy:Beta Pictoris moving group|Beta Pictoris moving group]].<ref name="ScienceDaily-2013-10-09"/> The object was discovered in 2013 in images taken by the [[Astronomy:Pan-STARRS|Pan-STARRS]] PS1 wide-field telescope. PSO J318.5-22's age is inferred to be 12 million years, the same age as the Beta Pictoris group.<ref name='ifa_press'/>

The team leader, Michael Liu of the [[Organization:Institute for Astronomy|Institute for Astronomy]] at the [[Organization:University of Hawaii|University of Hawaii]], stated: "We have never before seen an object free-floating in space that looks like this.
