== Function ==

This gene is one of several CC [[Biology:Cytokine|cytokine]] genes clustered on the p-arm of [[Biology:Chromosome 9|chromosome 9]]. Cytokines are a family of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteins characterized by two adjacent [[Chemistry:Cysteine|cysteine]]s. The protein encoded by this gene is chemotactic for skin-associated memory T lymphocytes. CCL27 is associated with homing of memory T lymphocytes to the [[Biology:Skin|skin]], and plays a role in T cell-mediated [[Medicine:Inflammation|inflammation]] of the skin.<ref>Morales et al.
