In 1999 Cavalier-Smith proposed a new paraphyletic phylum of [[Biology:Flagellate|flagellate]]s called [[Biology:Loukozoa|Loukozoa]], containing only the jakobids.<ref name="CavSmith 1999"/> In 2013 it was modified to contain three subphyla:<ref name="LSC"/>

*Metamonada, containing the infraphyla Trichozoa and Anaeromonada.
