This infobox is meant to be used on pages about volcanic eruptions and on the sections of articles about a volcano about an eruption, but ''not'' as the main template on the pages of the volcanoes themselves (for that, use {{template|Infobox mountain}}). This template can also be used inside an article, in a section dedicated to an important volcanic eruption. In these cases, the volcano, location, coordinates, and map should be left out, as they are redundant to the main article infobox (presumably [[Template:Infobox mountain]]). For instance:
