Dillwynia elegans is a shrub in the pea family found in New South Wales, Australia. The habitat is rocky sandy ridges or in dry sclerophyll forest. Distributed from Port Jackson to the east of Rylstone. The form is robust, and leaves are smooth. The plant can grow to 3 metres tall. Attractive yellow and red pea-type flowers form in spring. This plant first appeared in scientific literature in 1839, from a specimen growing in Charles von Hügel's garden. Published in Novarum stirpium decades editae a Museo Caesario Palatino Vindobonensi by the botanist Stephan Endlicher.[3][4][5]
Prior to 2002, this species was known as Dillwynia floribunda var. teretifolia (DC.) Blakely. The main character that separates these two species is leaf shape - rounded versus flattened, and on habitat preferences.[4]
