The resistive skin time is a characteristic time of typical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) phenomena.

Definition

The resistive skin time is defined as: [math]\displaystyle{ \tau_R=\frac{\mu_0 a^2}{\eta} }[/math] where [math]\displaystyle{ \eta }[/math] is the resistivity, [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] is a typical radius of the device and [math]\displaystyle{ \mu_0 }[/math] is the magnetic permeability.
