Park Systems Corporation

Park Systems Corporation(파크시스템스) is a manufacturer of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) products intended for nanotechnology development, scientific research, semiconductor quality assurance and defect review metrology at nanoscale. Park Systems provides a complete range of products for researchers and engineers in the chemistry, materials, physics, life sciences, semiconductor, and data storage industries.[citation needed] In December 2015, Park Systems held its IPO, joining the KOSDAQ Composite Index. The company holds several distinctions including the first company to be listed on the KOSDAQ with “AA” rating on technical evaluations of its technologies. Park Systems surpassed the 1 trillion KRW market capitalization in 2021.[1] Park Systems stature has been elevated in the stock market and is now included in the KOSDAQ 150 index and KODEX KRX300 index.[2]

Park Systems was founded in 1997 by Sang-il Park. Park was the co-founder of Park Scientific Instruments (PSI) and one of the pioneers in first commercializing the AFM technology into products that are manufactured worldwide. Park’s customers include most of the world's top 20 largest semiconductor companies and most of the major research universities and national labs in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.[citation needed]

Products

Park Systems offers various AFM products addressing scientific and industrial applications. Their product line ranges from desktop small sample to large (300 mm), multi-sample AFMs, from in-air, in-liquid to vacuum AFM products, from manual to fully automated AFM systems with robotic arms control.

Park Systems has recently introduced the Park FX40, a near-autonomous AFM system that automatizes techniques related to sample scanning. On the industrial semiconductor side, Park Systems introduced Park NX-Hybrid WLI, the hybrid AFM system that integrates  AFM technology with white light interferometry (WLI) technique. Park NX-Hybrid WLI complements the strengths and weaknesses of both technologies, producing an all in-one semiconductor metrology solution.

Park Systems atomic force microscopes are based on the new architecture with XY (lateral) and Z (vertical) independent, decoupled flexure scanners, its patented True Non-Contact technology and AI driven SmartScan operating software.

History

Park Systems has been developing the AFM market since its inception through continuous industry technology and product introductions.

  • 1985 – 1986 - Sang-il Park was in the group led by Professor Calvin Quate who invented the atomic force microscopy.[citation needed]
  • 1988 – Commercialization of the first AFM by Sang-il Park through Park Scientific Instruments.[citation needed]
  • 1997 – Founding of Park Systems (formerly PSIA) by Sang-il Park.
  • 2015 – Park Systems goes public (IPO) listing on KOSDAQ with AA rating.[3]

The Founder

Sang-il Park is the founder, chairman and CEO of Park Systems Corporation. Park led the adoption of the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) as a mainstream scientific instrument through the development of the first commercially viable AFM.[citation needed] After founding Park Systems Corporation, he led the development of AFM architecture with decoupling of XY and Z stages, flexure-based stage movement, and use of highly responsive Z scanners that allowed non-contact AFM scanning mode (True Non-Contact) and the ability to attain ultra-accurate AFM measurements.[citation needed]

As a leading spokesperson to media about nanoscience and the economy, Park was a participant in the Presidential Advisory Council for Science and Technology and on the Future Preparation Committee in Korea. Park continues to discuss scientific discoveries and technology commercialization and is a contributor in developing the national future strategy at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).[citation needed]
