Hum3D is a Ukrainian company that specializes in creating 3D models for cinema, advertising campaigns and game industry.[1] Their web site[2] offers the largest online collection of vehicles[3], with nearly 24,000 objects and over 9500 car models.[4]

Hum3D also regularly host modeling and rendering challenges, including an annual Car Render Challenge - the largest online event in car 3d modeling industry.

History

The company was founded in 2006 in Kharkov, Ukraine by team of 3D designers, who also made animations and flash games at the beginning.

The first car created was a Peugeot 207, and the most unusual was the ambulance in which John F. Kennedy was transported after an assassination attempt.

In 2016 the company changed its name from Humster3D to the shorter version Hum3D.

In 2021, it was announced that Hum3D models were available in Chaos Cosmos[5] as well as in NVIDIA DRIVE Sim.[6]

In 2022, company enters the 3D furniture market.[7] From the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian War the company actively help Ukraine by sending part of the profits to charity.[8]

Hum3D Render Challenge

It’s the largest awards event for the car 3d modeling industry, that supported by the most known 3D software developers: among the regular sponsors are Autodesk, Chaos, Adobe, Keyshot, and many others.[9]

Contest conditions

What participants need to do: create a car 3d model, put it into 3D environment and make a beautiful render. Participants can choose any automobile they like whether it is racing or imaginary vehicle.[10]

Environment in the work should be made in 3D as well as a final image. Minimal use of third-party assets such as vegetation, street elements is allowed. Vehicle models should be made by participants.

Awards

The first-place winner get prizes worth a total of $15,000[11]: license and content from 30 sponsors, leaders of 3D world industry. The winners are chosen by voting from a professional jury team.

Interviews with 3D artists who participated and won prizes in Render Challenge are published in magazines and blogs dedicated to 3D modeling.[12][13][14][15]

Contest dates

In 2013 organized a competition on modeling for 3D artists. The renders of winners are permanently published in 3DArtist magazine.[16]

In 2018, Hum3D is organizing the Car Render Challenge 2018, a car modeling and visualization competition.[17][18]

In December 2021, Hum3D is organizing the eighth annual Car Render Challenge, an art competition for automotive modeling and visualization.[19]

Judges

Winners are selected by a team of judges, including professional 3D artists, editors of media resources about 3D modeling, as well as founders of companies that develop software for 3D artists. The latter include Jules Urbach, Founder and CEO of OTOY Inc (developers of Octane Render), Mark Segasby, co-founder of Lightmap (developers of HDR Light Studio)[20] and others.
