The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment)[2] developed by Suzuki and produced by Toyota in India since 2022.[3] Available with a range of mild and full hybrid petrol powertrains, the model was released in July 2022 in India ahead of its Suzuki-badged counterpart. It indirectly replaced the smaller Urban Cruiser, a rebadged Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
Overview
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder was released in India on 1 July 2022.[4] The vehicle is developed by Suzuki using the Global C platform shared with the SX4 S-Cross and the Vitara, while the Suzuki-branded model will be released afterwards. For the full hybrid model, Suzuki incorporated the Toyota Hybrid System to the vehicle, which includes the 1.5-litre M15A-FXE three-cylinder engine from the XP210 series Yaris/Yaris Cross. It offers an EV mode with an electric-only range of up to 25 km (16 mi). The mild hybrid model, marketed as "NeoDrive", uses Suzuki's 1.5-litre K15C four-cylinder engine and the Smart Hybrid system developed by Suzuki.
Grade levels available in India are E, S, G and V, with the former only available as a mild hybrid.[5] An all-wheel-drive model is also offered for the V mild hybrid grade with manual transmission.[6]
Production will start in August 2022 at Toyota Kirloskar Motor's second plant in Bidadi, while sales will begin in India in September.[7] Exports to African markets are planned.[3][8]
