This is a group of templates that provide an easy method to link to student population statistics for UK universities. The templates should be updated annually as the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) releases new data, thus it should not be necessary to manually update the articles or their references. The next update is due in January 2021 and is for the 2019/20 academic year. Universities are identified by a INSTID (institution identifier) as a parameter, which was published alongside each university by HESA - HESA now uses the UKPRN instead, but the INSTID is used on all the pages where this template is used so has not been changed.
The templates are:
- {{HESA student population}} – gives the total student population
- {{HESA undergraduate population}} – gives the total undergraduate student population
- {{HESA postgraduate population}} – gives the total postgraduate student population
- {{HESA student population rank}} – where the university lies in a list ordered by total student population (highest first)
- {{HESA total}} – gives the current total number of universities
- {{HESA citation}} – gives a citation for the source of data
- {{HESA year}} – gives the academic year to which the data applies (not the year it was generated)
