Omkhar Arasaratnam is a Canadian-American computer scientist, technology executive, and investor. He specializes in cybersecurity, software engineering and technical risk management and is currently the General Manager at the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF).[1]

Arasaratnam began his career in open source software development as a Gentoo Linux PPC64 maintainer and contributor to the Linux kernel.[1]  Later, he led cybersecurity efforts for over 25 years at various financial and technology institutions, including Google, JPMorgan Chase, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, TD Bank and IBM.[2] In May 2023, Arasaratnam became General Manager of the Open Source Security Foundation, succeeding Brian Behlendorf.[3]

Arasaratnam is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Cybersecurity at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering.[4] Since 2021, Arasaratnam and his wife have funded the Cyber Fellows S&K scholarship focused on breaking down barriers that have historically led to the underrepresentation of women and minorities in STEM.[5][6]

In September 2023, on behalf of OpenSSF, he helped host the Secure Open Source Software Summit, a meeting with cybersecurity US government officials and private sector leaders on the best ways to improve the security of the open source software ecosystem.[7]
