Gods in Wedlock is a 1942 Australian radio play by Richard Lane.[3] It was one of the few original plays Lane did around this time in his career, as he had switched increasingly to adaptations and serials.[4] Leslie Rees said it was one of Lane's major works and one of the best Australian radio plays of the 1940s.[5]

Wireless Weekly called it "a somewhat stereotyped story."[6]

The play was popular and produced again in 1950.[7]

Premise

According to Wireless Weekly the play was about "a husband (Zeus) whose eyes wander to the charms of an appealing water nymph (Io). Despite the scene being Olympus, Zeus is brought to heel by his domineering queen, Hera, and reminded of his promise to love, honor, and obey. The unfortunate Io is turned into a heifer, but this is merely by the way, and the reconciled king and queen are left to recapture lost romance."[6]
