Short description: Used to create torque to start a single phase induction motor

The auxiliary windings are the copper loops. They loop around the magnetic circuit, or transformer
Here you can see the auxiliary windings with a rotor between them

A startup winding, also known as the auxiliary winding, is used to create the torque needed to start a single phase induction motor.[1]

This winding creates the rotating magnetic field in this type of motor by changing the relationship of the current in relation to the voltage.
