Alexander Abashian (11 March 1930 – 12 February 2014) was an American particle physicist.

Abashian earned a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University,[1] and served as an adviser to several doctoral students at Virginia Tech.[2][3] Prior to joining the Virginia Tech faculty, he taught at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and was a member of the research division within the high-energy physics program of the United States Atomic Energy Commission.[4][5] Abashian was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society in 1969,[4] and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1985.[6]

Abashian was married to Dorothy VanDeMar until her death in 2009. The couple raised four children.[7] Abashian died on 12 February 2014.[1]
