Brainworx Audio GmbH is a developer of professional audio signal processing technologies and audio effects, used in recording, mixing, mastering, post production, and live sound. The company's headquarters are located in Leverkusen, Germany.

Since the mid-2000s, Brainworx software has been available as plugins for most popular audio hosts and platforms, including native Audio Units, VST, & AAX versions for Mac OS and Windows, along with versions for VENUE, UAD and other proprietary hardware systems. Brainworx is known for their innovative M/S technologies and high quality plugins.[1][2]

History

Founded in 1999 by Dirk Ulrich, Brainworx released their first and most well known plugin, bx_digital, in 2008.[3]

In January 2012 Brainworx CEO Dirk Ulrich formed a plugin distribution company called Plugin Alliance LLC, comprising Brainworx, SPL, Elysia, Vertigo, Millennia, Charter Oak, Mäag Audio, Neve Custom Series 75, and others, with the goal of establishing a user friendly native plugin 'über-standard' supporting all major plugin formats and uniting some of the best known international audio companies under one virtual roof.[4]

Plugin Alliance

While Brainworx and their mutual founder are based in Germany, Plugin Alliance is incorporated in the USA. Plugin Alliance's licensing system does not require an iLok device, the former industry standard anti-piracy technology.[5]
