Physics:DHCAL calorimeter

DHCAL (Digital Hadron Calorimeter) [1] is a type of a hadron calorimeter developed for future lepton colliding beam detectors. The calorimeter features a very finely segmented (typically 1×1 cm2) digital (i.e. one-bit) readout. The fine segmentation is designed for the application of Particle Flow Algorithms (PFAs) to the measurement of hadronic jets. To first order the energy of incident particles in this calorimeter is reconstructed as being proportional to the number of pads with a signal over a given threshold.

On the technical side, the DHCAL calorimeter can be implemented using Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) or Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs).
