Geechee red pea is a historic heirloom cowpea cultivar grown in the lowcountry in South Carolina and Georgia most notably on Sapelo Island off the Georgian coast. They are small and reddish in color. Traditionally they are used in Gullah cuisine as well as a New Year's Day tradition in Hog Hammock.[1]
