Engineering:Earth 300
Earth 300 is a proposed nuclear powered superyacht intended for scientific research and expedition. As of 2021, it is scheduled to launch in 2025 but certification for the reactor is not expected for another five to seven years, so the vessel is likely to run initially on other fuels.
Design
The yacht, designed to be 300 m (980 ft) long and 60 m (200 ft) high, would be powered by a molten salt reactor and operate for 300 days a year.[1] The yacht is designed for scientific research and expedition, having 22 laboratories on board.[2] Accommodation would be for over 400 people; including 160 scientists and 20 experts-in-residence, amongst others.[3]
Construction
Shipyards in Europe and South Korea are being considered for the construction, with the cost of construction estimated at between $500 million and $700 million.[1]
