Homotrema rubra is a foraminifer originally discovered by Lamarck, which when alive is a bright-red colour.[1] It grows on the reef crest in warm waters, and bleaches after it is removed.[2] It gives Bermuda beaches a pink colour.[3][4]
The name Homotrema rubra, by which it is sometimes referred to, is not accepted.[5] The original name given by Lamarck was Millepor rubra.[5]
