City Connection Co., Ltd. (株式会社シティコネクション) is a Japanese music label and video game developer located in Chiyoda, Tokyo.[1] It was founded in 2005 and produces soundtracks for video games under their label Clarice Disk. The company owns the rights to Jaleco's video game assets and has licensed these games to other companies for other projects, such as the Arcade Archives series.
History
The company was founded in April 2005 by Nobuhiro Yoshikawa, and was originally a marketing subsidiary by Tsutaya. He became dissatisfied with the current venture, and soon cut ties with Tsutaya and began production of video game soundtracks, usually based on PC games in Japan. In 2011, the company partnered with former game developer Jaleco and produced soundtracks based on Jaleco video games, eventually renaming the company to City Connection, named after the 1985 arcade game of the same name, with their record label being renamed to Clarice Disc, named after the protagonist of City Connection.
In 2014, City Connection acquired the rights to Jaleco's video game assets after the bankruptcy of its parent company, Game Yarou, and began production of video games alongside their music label.[2] City Connection would begin licensing Jaleco's video games to other companies, notably to Hamster Corporation for their Arcade Archives series of arcade ports. The company would also collaborate with other Japanese game developers, including Taito Corporation and Bandai Namco Entertainment.[3] In December 2016, City Connection established Naughty Corporation as part of an agreement with the Konan Electric Company, with Naughty currently owning City Connection and their assets.[4] In March 2019, City Connection acquired Zerodiv, a company founded by Keiyuki Haragami, and thus inherited the distribution rights to Psikyo's catalog of game titles.
