Maduro Holding B.V. is the holding company of the Maduro Group, a private Dutch conglomerate based in the Dutch Caribbean. The company is headquartered in Willemstad, Curaçao.
History
Founded in 1837 as a trading company on the island of Curaçao, S.E.L. Maduro began operating schooners between local Caribbean ports. By World War II, owing to its location near the Maracaibo Basin and with the largest refinery in the world at the time, Willemstad became an energy hub for tankers transporting aviation fuel to the Allies in Northern Africa and Great Britain.[1] In 1917, Maduro and local financier Joseph Alvarez-Correa founded Maduro's Bank, the predecessor to Maduro & Curiel's Bank.[2]
Present day
The Maduro Group operates as a shipping agency, logistical provider, travel agency, real estate owner and transportation provider. Launched in 2006, Insel Air serves as the national airline of Curaçao.
