Ashwa Racing is a Formula Student team participating out of R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore, India. Founded in 2003, Ashwa Racing has established itself as student initiative in the arena of Motorsport Engineering education, producing student prototypes year after year, participating in various FSAE events. Currently, the organization produces prototypes in three categories: combustion, hybrid, and electric.[1]
The team consists of over a hundred and twenty interdisciplinary undergraduate students who aim to conceive, design, fabricate, develop and compete with other Formula-style race car at various international events.
History & Achievements
Ashwa Racing is the oldest technical team of R.V College of Engineering. Established in 2003, the project was commenced with the launch of the combustion prototype in 2005, becoming the only Indian Team to represent the nation at Formula SAE Australasia. Ever since, Ashwa Mobility has participated at various international FSAE events. In 2018, the team set a new national record in acceleration at Formula Bharat (an Indian FSAE event) 2018 (4.29 seconds), thus certifying the 2018 combustion prototype as the fastest car in India.
In interests of expanding the project to newer sustainable technologies, the project diversified into the Hybrid segment in 2014. The project has contested at Formula Hybrid, New Hampshire, USA ever since, and has placed second overall in the years 2017 and 2018. The year 2018 was an important milestone in the project's timeline, with further diversification into fully electric prototypes, hence becoming the only Indian team to design, fabricate and test prototypes in the three categories of combustion, hybrid and electric.
Achievements
Operation and Structure
The team functions in an organized manner, similar to an industry and attaining standards of an International Formula Student Racing team. It is structured so as to produce all round individuals and capable engineers. Every member in the organization is assigned a technical as well as a managerial role, so as to effectively cater to all aspects of the prototype production process.

2006 Combustion
RZ-06 was a leap ahead of 10 years in design from its predecessor, the RZ-05, being the first ever student built vehicle with carbon fiber reinforced steel frame in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
It also incorporated a re-programmable ECU, a 3D printed intake, as well as collaborative assembly with various OEM companies such as BBS, Hoosier, MOTEC, also involving a Torsen Limited speed differential. The prototype won the Best Asian Entry award at Formula SAE Australasia.

2018
The year 2018 saw the launch of the combustion, hybrid and electric[3] prototypes, further defining verticals in other areas of mobility engineering such as the open source vehicle concept, both driven and driverless, as well as hyperloop ideation. The 2018 hybrid prototype also participated at Formula Hybrid, USA, securing the second place overall.[4][5]

Future
Ashwa Racing plans to extend its scope towards holistic organizational functioning and operational excellence. Additionally, it aims to venture into mobility solutions for urban transportation problems. A future user-centric autonomous prototype aims to showcase various experimental advances our team endeavors to make with this project: novel modes of user interaction with a fluid in-car entertainment system, machine learning-assisted power management systems, an emphasis on secure, and versatile V2X networks. The driverless model would also capture the wide variety of urban features that characterize the Indian subcontinent, to provide a functional, deployment-ready solution.
