Shrine Shintoists are a major category of Japan ese Shintoists. Their houses of worship are Shinto shrines. Most shrines are members of the Association of Shinto Shrines. Another major Shinto group is Sectarian Shinto, which is far younger than Shrine Shinto. Until 1945, State Shinto belonged to Shrine Shinto.[1] Some Shrine Shintoists also are Buddhists. Shinbutsu-shūgō is the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism. There are millions of Shrine Shintoists. This possibly is not an identity group. Shrine Shinto is a real division but the believers do not identify as distinct in the way most members of other religions or parts of religions do. Shinto Taikyo, formerly Shinto Honkyoku, is a new religious movement.
