David Ssevviiri is a Ugandan Mathematician (specialising in pure mathematics) and academician born in 1982 in Central Uganda. David is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, College of Natural Sciences of Makerere University. [1] is the largest and oldest institution of higher learning in Uganda established in 1922. His major area of research is mainly Algebra: ring theory, radical theory, module theory, near-ring theory, path algebras, torsion theory, local cohomology and Cousin complexes. Another major interest of his is interactions between algebra and algebraic geometry.

Education

Dr. Ssevviiri received his PhD in Mathematics from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), South Africa. He also holds two Master of Science - Mathematics degrees from NMMU and Makerere University as well as a Bachelor of Science with Education (Mathematics and Chemistry) from Makerere University. The theses leading to the award of the graduate degrees to Dr. Ssevviiri are: PhD (A contribution to the theory of prime modules); MSc., NMMU (On prime modules and radicals of modules); MSc., Makerere (On integral and rational quadratic forms). He did his Post-doc at NMMU.

Work Experience

Prior to joining Makerere University, Dr. Ssevviiri taught Mathematics and Chemistry at Eden International School, Mbarara and also served as Assistant Director of Studies at the same school. He then served as an Assistant Lecturer at Kampala International University and acted as Faculty Administrator. He taught Mathematics at NMMU while studying for an MSc at same institution.

David joined Makerere University in 2011 as an Assistant Lecturer rising through the ranks to Senior Lecturer in 2015. He has served as Chair/Head – Department of Mathematics from November 2015 to February 2020. Dr. Ssevviiri is the current Node Coordinator, Makerere University for the East African Centre for Mathematical Research (EACMaR), a position he has held since July 2019. He also served as the overall coordinator for the East Africa Universities Mathematics Programme (EAUMP) from July 2017 to January 2020.

He has served as an external examiner for various universities thus: 2019/2020 (Muni University, Uganda: External Examiner of Mathematics); 2018-2021 (University of Dar es Salaam – College of Education, Tanzania: External Examiner of Pure Mathematics); 2017-2019 (Islamic University in Uganda: External Examiner of Pure Mathematics); 2016-2018 (Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda: External Examiner of Mathematics); and 2014-2017 (University of Dar es Salaam – College of Education, Tanzania: External Examiner of Mathematics).
