Black jay is a common name which can refer to two unrelated birds:

  • In Tasmania it is the local name for the black currawong (Strepera fuliginosa) of the Artamidae family.
  • A true jay, or black magpie, called Platysmurus leucopterus from Borneo, Sumatra, Malaysia, and southern Thailand, also known as the white-winged jay (nominate race, or black crested magpie (Borneo race which is entirely black).
