CADR means clean air delivery rate, and it's helpful in air cleaning devices. [1] The term was established by AHAM (Association of home appliances manufacturers).[2] The figure is used to judge the size of particles an air cleaner has removed from the air, which is always in cubic feet per minute (CFM). [3] The cadr merit is only significant in removing particles such as dust, pollen, and smoke. Apart from these factors, CADR is meaningless to other airborne pollutants. Hence CADR is used to know how effective an air purifier is in a given room area and the volume of clean air produced per minute. The higher the value of the CADR, the more powerful it is. Therefore, always choose an air cleaner whose clean air delivery rate is higher than lower value….

CADR Determination

It makes no difference even if you find a device with a CADR rating, but as long the capacity is not up to your room space, the device will work for hours without delivering optimal results while you spend more on power consumption. [4] It is, therefore, important you know the supposed room size where to use it. When this is determined, then you can further calculate the CADR required for such square feet. [5]

Therefore, how do you know the correct CADR number for a particular room coverage? [6] See the calculation below.

Formula

The efficiency and the CFM information is what you should be check whenever you see an air purifier (air cleaner) CADR = CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) x E (Efficiency)/ 100% Example: If an air purifier has a 150cfm rating with 80% efficiency. You can determine the CADR value for such a device as follows…:

 Where;

CFM = 150, E=80% By substituting the value into the formula; CADR = 150 X 80%/ 100

            = 120

Hence, the air purifier cadr = 120

Sizing The Right CADR Device For Your Room Space

Calculating the CADR value for an air cleaner doesn't mean you can pick any device to be used in your facility. Every room has measurements, and this is what will influence the CADR value that'll be required. [7] To do this, 1. Using a meter rule, measure your room's Length (L) and Breadth (B) in feet. Possibly call an expert to help you out. 2. Next, multiply the Length (L) X Breadth (B) Taking a room of 8 feet ceiling height into cognize with Length = 20 feet and Breadth = 15 feet. Calculation Room size = Length x Breadth

                 = 20 feet x 15 feet
                 = 300 square feet

We can further determine the right cadr for a calculated room size of 300 square feet by applying the AHAM 2/3 rule of thumb, dividing the computed value by 1.55. We say 300 / 1.55 = 465 Hence, you will need a CADR value of 465 in a 300 square feet coverage.

CADR is one critical feature in an air purifier if you want a machine that can effectively remove smoke, pollen, and dust particles from your room space. [8]

Therefore, the formula highlighted above would help you determine the best air cleaner for any room size with a suitable cadr rating.
