Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, Dublin, is an agency of the Irish province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The Centre researches, publishes, advocates, and networks on social justice issues such as prison reform, housing, ecology, refugees, health policy, and on renewal in the Catholic Church.[1]

Projects

  • Prison issues – A report by the Centre recommended that prisoners aged 18–24 be accommodated separately from adults, for a variety of reasons given.[2] A staff member at the Centre authored a book on prison reform in Europe[3][4] which was widely noted in the press.[5][6][7] and academia.[8] The Centre also networks with eleven Jesuit research centres in nine countries in Europe to advocate for prison reform.[9]
  • Housing – The Centre argued for housing as a key voting issue in the elections in Ireland.[10][11][12]
  • Ecology' – Staff members are available for speaking engagements on topics such as Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment, Laudato si,[13] on which the Centre cohosted a seminar with the University of Dublin.[14]
  • Health policy – The Centre coauthored with The Adelaide Hospital Society the policy paper "The Irish Health System, Vision, Values and Reality".[15]
  • Refugees – The Centre networks with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Ireland.[16]
  • Church renewal – Staff member Gerry O’Hanlon, S.J., is continually publishing articles on the implementation of the renewal envisaged by the Catholic bishops at their Second Vatican Council.[17]
  • Volunteering opportunities – The Centre promotes opportunities for insertion to both educate and lend assistance, including a widely circulated booklet.[18]
