The general structure of pyrromethene dyes, abbreviated with "P". For instance, for P500 R1=R2=CH3.[1]

Pyrromethene is a dye used in solid-state dye lasers.[2][3] As a structural motif it is similar to the naturally occurring tetrapyrrole class of compounds.
