Cart32 is shopping cart software built for Microsoft Servers using Visual Basic, a MySQL database, and HTML components. Cart32 provides shopping cart, checkout, and storefront hosting facilities to tens of thousands of online retail clients internationally.[1]

Cart32 was first released in 1996. Cart32 software is offered for purchase or hosting and the company also offers custom programming to assist with the unique needs of various businesses.[2]

Cart32 features complete remote administration through a Web browser and secures itself using public/private key encryption for credit card information. There are extensive customizations for tax, shipping product management, etc. Version 4.3 adds many new features, including support for MySQL and SQL server, much stronger public/private key encryption of passwords and credit card numbers, integrates well with ASP, Cold Fusion, and Microsoft FrontPage, validation of expiration dates, and more.[3]

Security problems

The software was subject to bad press in April 2000, due to a security hole that allowed anyone with the proper password to access the company's server. The vulnerability put many credit card numbers and other sensitive information at risk, but was repaired within days of the announcement.[4]
