Born in 1946, in Barbara, Palestine, Ghazi Kamel Abunahl is a prominent and influential businessman with interests in insurance and reinsurance. He is the shareholder and Chairman of Nest Investments (Holdings) Ltd, a group whose net assets exceed US$2.3 billion with subsidiaries and affiliates in the MENA region, UK, Spain , Cyprus and Australia . It has operations in 23 countries covering Insurance, Reinsurance, Insurance Broking, Real Estate, Banking and licensed services. His group’s assets exceed US$5 billion; produce a turnover of more the US$600 million and employ more than 6,000 people in MENA, Europe, United States , and the Asia Pacific region.[1]


In 1990 Abunahl moved with his family to the UK for his children’s education and for work purposes.[2]

Career

In 1989, he established Trust International Insurance and Reinsurance Company BSC (c) in Bahrain with an initial paid-up capital of US$15 million, today its paid capital is US$250 million with an equity of US$416 million. In 2017 he stepped down as director to focus on other parts of the group.[3]

In 1990, Ghazi Abunahl became the shareholder and chairman of Nest Investments (Holdings) Ltd, with operations in 23 countries cover Insurance, Reinsurance, Insurance Broking, Real Estate, Banking and licensed services. His group’s assets exceed US$5 billion; produce a turnover of US$600 million with subsidiaries and affiliates in the MENA region, UK, Spain , Cyprus and Australia .

In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of Trust Holding Ltd, the direct insurance arm which operates in Cyprus, Palestine, Lebanon, Algeria, Yemen and Iraq. Trust Holding is based in Cyprus with a paid-up capital of US$200 million, assets of more than US$2.5 billion and net equity in excess of US$1.8 billion.

In April 2004, Abunahl became a board member at the World Trade Centres Association,  New York City , after which he was elected chairman, a position he held until April 2017. He is currently a board member and honorary emeritus chairman of the association.[4]

Awards

In September 2013, during the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers held in Beijing, China ,  Ghazi Abunahl received the “Life-Time Achievement Award” for his services to the MENA Insurance industry.[5]

Philanthropy

The Bonavero Institute for Human Rights

Together with his wife, he was made a member of the Chancellor’s Court of Benefactors of Oxford University for their contribution in establishing the Bonavero Institute for Human Rights, and for supporting 74 law students specializing in human rights.[6]

Sculpture Art Nest Museum

Alongside his wife, Abunahl supported the establishment of the Artistic Sculpture" Museum that was opened in October 2018 in the area of Fasoula, Cyprus. One of the rooms in the exhibition was named "Ghazi Abunahl" in appreciation of his support and his role in the establishment of the museum.[7]
