John Anthony Murphy (born January 1, 1943) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is credited with inventing ARCNET, the first commercial networking system, in 1976. He was working for Datapoint Corporation at the time.[1] His biography appeared in the IT History Society website.[2] John graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1965 with an A.B. degree in electrical engineering.[2]
