Ryota Matsumoto is a Japanese artist and media theorist.[1]
Life
Ryota Matsumoto (松本 良多, Matsumoto Ryōta) was born in Tokyo, Japan. He received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 after his undergraduate studies in art and design theory at the Architectural Association in London and Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Glasgow School of Art from 1992 to 1995.[2]
He had been an adjunct lecturer at the Transart Institute for Creative Research from 2016 to 2018 and is a research associate at the New Centre of Research and Practice. He is known as the forefather of the postdigital art and design movement.[3]
Awards and Exhibitions
Matsumoto has received numerous awards including the Visual Art Open International Artist Award, Florence Biennale Mixed Media 2nd Place Award, and Lynx International Prize Award. He has held solo exhibitions at various places including BYTE Gallery at Transylvania University in 2015, Los Angeles Center of Digital Art in 2016, and Alviani ArtSpace, Pescara in 2017.
