Shane McRann Bigelow (born November 22, 1976) is an American entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Champ Titles, Inc., a Cleveland-based company that helps government processes become more efficient by converting paper-based endeavors to digital efforts using blockchain.[1]


Early life and education

Bigelow was born in eastern Pennsylvania. He graduated cum laude with a finance degree and a concentration in international business from the University of Notre Dame in 1998.[2] He received a Masters of Arts in international political economy and development from Fordham University in 2012.[3] He is a member of Sigma Iota Rho—The National Honor Society for International Studies, and a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon—The International Honor Society for Economics.  

Career

In 1998, Bigelow founded a small software company in California that worked to help banks more efficiently process their vehicle loan and lease portfolios.  

After selling that company in 2002, he was hired into the sales organization of Latitude Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LATD), which sold to Cisco Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) in 2004.[4] Bigelow then went to work for Cisco Systems Capital (a subsidiary of Cisco Systems, Inc.) where he helped build a new practice areas working with investment banks.[5]

In 2005, his efforts with Cisco resulted in him being recruited to AllianceBernstein (NYSE: AB).[6] There, he served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director where he managed a part of the firm’s US business and sat on their Responsible Investment Committee that focused on the United Nation’s Principles for Responsible InvestmentEnvironmental, Social and Governance Issues (ESG); and Socially Responsible Investment matters.[7]

In 2018, Bigelow left Bernstein to co-found Champ Titles, which digitizes the process of vehicle titling between state government, insurance carriers, financial institutions, auto retailers, and consumers.[8][9][10]

Philanthropy

Bigelow is a member of the board for Bluecoats,[11] The Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism (NEOPAT),[12] the Gesu School Endowment Fund, where he is President, and the Lincoln Hall Foundation,[13] where he is chairman of the investment committee. He has additionally been involved with the United Way of Greater Cleveland as a member of their campaign committee, is an alumnus of Leadership Cleveland, is a member of the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Commission on Economic Inclusion[14] and is an alum of the FBI Citizen’s Academy. Further, he has previously been active with One.org,[15] and on the investment committee for The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

Bigelow has been featured as an entrepreneur and blockchain expert in a variety of business, government, technology focused publications as well as conferences, addressing the benefits of digitization in a post-COVID world, emerging trends in the blockchain industry, government and regulation, and the partnership of blockchain companies and the state. Shane was recognized as one of Crain's Cleveland Business 2021 Notable Entrepreneurs.[16] In 2020, he testified before The United States House of Representatives Committee on Small Business on the benefits of blockchain technology.[17] Bigelow has been featured in Real Leaders magazine[18] and has authored a number of articles and blogs that address government efficiency and also co-authored Southern California, Inc.: a region poised : a study of venture capital investors, investments and technology in Southern California.[19] Bigelow has also served as an advisor to documentaries including Some Kind of Spark, Digging Through Darkness, and The 5 Browns.

Personal life

Bigelow lives in Gates Mills, Ohio. He is married to Kimberly (née Terreri) Bigelow, also an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame.[20] They have three sons.
