Meimuna opalifera, known commonly as Walker's cicada[3] or the elongate cicada,[4] is a species of cicada found In China, Japan, Taiwan, and the Korean Peninsula. It emerges in July and is no longer seen by about October. It is also known in Japan as tsuku-tsuku-boushi (ツクツクボウシ) due to its song.[citation needed]

Description

Male Meimuna opalifera grow to a size of about 42 to 46 mm (1.7 to 1.8 in), while females reach a size of about 40 to 44 mm (1.6 to 1.7 in).[5]

Distribution

Meimuna opalifera is found in China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and Taiwan.[5]

Life cycle

Its median life cycle from egg to natural adult death is around two years. However, its life cycle can range from two years to five years.[6]
