Pilosella friesii (synonym Hieracium schultzii,[1] the roughstem hawkweed[2]) – not to be confused with the European P. schultesii – is a North American plant species in the tribe Cichorieae within the family Asteraceae. It is widespread across much of Mexico with a few populations in Guatemala and western Texas .[3][4][5]

Pilosella friesii is herbaceous and up to 70 cm (2.3 ft) tall with many hairs. Leaves are both on the stem and at the bottom. Leaves are up to 150 mm (5.9 in) long. One stalk can produce 3-25 flower heads in a conical or flat-topped array. Each head has 25-40 yellow ray flowers but no disc flowers.[6]
