Pleuromeris is a genus of bivalve molluscs in the family Carditidae.[1][2]

Description

Members of the genus have small subtrigonal shells with prominent beaks, and steep anterior and posterior slopes that constrict the hinge line laterally. A triangular central tooth is found on the right valve.[3]

Taxonomy

The genus was first described by Timothy Abbott Conrad in 1867.[4]

Distribution

Pleuromeris has a cosmopolitan distribution,[5] found in areas including South America, the Caribbean Sea, Australia and New Zealand.[6] The earliest known fossils date to the Paleocene, and are found in Belgium and New Zealand.[7]
