3)CHO. It is a colorless liquid. The compound is a chiral aldehyde. It serves as a precursor to the commercial tranquilizer meprobamate. It is prepared by aldol condensation of propionaldehyde followed by dehydration and hydrogenation of the aldol product.[1]
