Chemistry:E-SDS
From HandWiki
An extended safety data sheet (e-SDS) is a document used to communicate detailed chemical safety information under the European Union’s REACH regulation 1907/2006/EC.[1] It extends a safety data sheet with an additional annex containing guidance on safe handling of hazardous substances. While following standard SDS structure, it also contains detailed information on exposure assessment and risk management.
The necessity of e-SDS
The 1907/2006/EC REACH prescribes that those substances,[1] which:
- is produced in more than 10 tonnes/year, and
- considered as a hazardous substance,
exposure scenarios have to be prepared.
These exposure scenarios must be appended to the safety data sheet, therefore a so-called extended SDS (e-SDS) is created.
The descriptor system
The European Chemicals Agency E-SDS descriptor system includes:
- SU
- Descriptor-list for sectors of use
- PC
- Descriptor-list for Chemical Product Category
- PROC
- Descriptor-list for process categories
- ERC
- Description for Environmental Release Categories
