Blank Media Games (commonly abbreviated as BMG) is an American video game developer based in Austin, Texas. It was founded by Josh Brittain and Blake Burns in 2014. The company is best known for creating the browser game Town of Salem, which was recently made available to play on Steam and as a mobile app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on some devices.[1]
History
In early 2014, Josh Brittain and Blake Burns formed the company with two developers and two game artists. As of 2019, they now have 8 people working for the company and it is based in Austin, Texas.[2]
Town of Salem (2014)
The company is most notable for creating the online browser game entitled Town of Salem. It was released soon after the company was formed and began to gain popularity. The game is based on the Salem witch trials. Upon its release, it quickly gained a large player base. The game is centered around three factions: the Town, the Mafia, and the Neutrals. The town's goal is to lynch or kill every Mafia member or "Evil" role. The Mafia's goal, on the contrary, is to kill all townspeople. The Neutral roles all have their own respective goals that vary from role to role. Each person has a role, but do not know the roles of the other players.[3]
In December 2018, the game was hacked and over 7,600,000 user passwords, IP addresses, email addresses, and some payment information was leaked.[4][5]. As a result, the game is now pay-to-play.
The Coven (2017)
On June 6, 2017, Blank Media Games released The Coven, an expansion to the original Town of Salem. The expansion introduced 15 new roles, a new faction, exclusive queues and rotating game modes.[6]
Games developed
Blank Media Games has stated that they are working on many other projects, but the only game they have released is Town of Salem.
