Cumulocity GmbH is a German software company headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. It develops the Cumulocity software as a service, primarily for industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.
History
Cumulocity GmbH was founded in 2012 by Bernd Groß, Stefan Vaillant, Dr. André Eickler and Oliver Stache as a spin-off from Nokia Siemens Networks, with support from High-Tech Gründerfonds, HCS and Verso Capital.[3]
In 2017, the company was acquired by Software AG.[3] In 2024, the management team, led by Bernd Groß, completed a management buyout of Cumulocity GmbH, including the Cumulocity and Apama platforms, with support from Schroders Capital, Verso Capital, and Avedon.[4]
Products
Cumulocity is a software as a service (SaaS) providing IoT device connectivity, real-time data processing, data management, and application enablement for the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Key features include:
- Connectivity to standard IIoT protocols, such as MQTT, OMA LWM2M, Low-power wide-area network, OPC Unified Architecture, Modbus, and CAN bus.
- Remote and bulk IoT device management, including provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and software/firmware updates for fleets of IoT devices.
- Digital twin management for modeling real-world assets, such as buildings, production lines, and machines, using connected sensors and devices.
- A cockpit interface for real-time visualization of device data.
- Real-time streaming analytics through the Apama engine.
- Data lake capabilities and data analytics.[5]
For edge computing, the company contributes to the open-source project thin-edge.io.[6]. Additionally, Cumulocity Edge is offered as a software package of Cumulocity for local deployment on industrial servers.
Customers and partners
Cumulocity is frequently embedded into products from connected equipment manufacturers, industrial service providers and telecommunications service providers. [7] For example, Deutsche Telekom and NTT Communications have reportedly used Cumulocity as base for IoT services under their brand.[8][9][10][11]
