iAuthor is a London-based tech startup and online book community which launched in July 2013.[1] Described in The Bookseller as a "Pinterest for books",[2] iAuthor connects authors and publishers to readers using crowdsourced themes[2] and book samples.[2][3]

History

iAuthor was founded by Adam Kolczynski on 18 January 2012.[4] Between December 2012 and July 2013, the platform operated in live beta, capped at 250 users.[1] iAuthor officially launched on July 26, 2013, opening the platform to all authors and publishers.[1]

As of March 2016, iAuthor attracts users from 144 countries.[2] The ratio of traditionally published to self-published authors is 40:60,[2] with books by authors from Pan Macmillan, HarperCollins, Harlequin, Walker Books, Accent Press and Andersen Press.[2]

Features

  • Seeded sorting of books by "Most Recommended" and "Most Followed"[5]
  • Crowdsourced book themes with invite functionality[2][3][6]
  • Proprietary book sampler ("LitSampler")[2][3][7]
  • Client-facing analytics dashboard measuring book performance[3][5]
  • Native advertising across sponsored zones ("7dayAds") and genre-specific promotional packages ("iAuthor Impact")[8][9][10][11]

Partnerships

iAuthor has a corporate partnership with Book Aid International,[12][13] donating to literacy-related causes organised by the charity.
